Google Analytics 4 (GA4) has released several new features that can help you get a better understanding of your website’s performance. When we first discussed GA4, we knew it was a powerful tool with many new features which we were excited to see. Even after its release, it was and still is evolving to become an even more vital part of digital marketing. Here are four of the most important updates to the GA4 home page:

1. A New Welcome Tutorial

As a way to introduce basic and essential settings, GA4 now features a brief tutorial to help new users become acclimatised to the new features. The simple steps will help introduce key concepts and settings to users to ensure they receive the best experience.

2. A New Banner at the Top of the Home Page

For users who also use Google Ads in collaboration with their Google Analytics, there is now a banner at the top of the home page titled, “Verify your Google Ads Settings” This banner outlines the key tasks which must be completed in order to bid against Google Analytics 4 data. The banner disappears once all tasks are marked as complete in Setup Assistant.

3. Improvements to the Suggested for You section

Quick and to the point, these quick suggestion cards help users to optimise their property and get the best out of it. These cards have been popular across all other Analytics properties so it should come as no surprise that they would turn up in GA4.

4. The ability to dismiss suggestions, insights, and recommendations

If Analytics presents a card in the “Suggested for you” or “Insights & recommendations” section that isn’t relevant to you, you can dismiss the card by clicking the thumbs-down button. Based on your input, Google Analytics can better curate the Home page for you in the future using machine learning.

Once dismissed, the card will not reappear for the next 30 days. However, if users do not submit the feedback form which appears after clicking the feedback button, the card will remain visible for the remainder of the session but will not return in future sessions. You can still access all insights and recommendations from the Insights Hub, including the ones you’ve previously dismissed.

Set Up Assistant

Google Analytics 4 properties now include an action button to the bottom right-hand corner of each page. When you hover over the button, you will see the number of tasks you have marked as complete in Setup Assistant. When you click the button, Analytics opens Setup Assistant so you can continue to complete the key setup tasks. This allows you the flexibility to complete what you can and come back later to complete the rest at any time.

Conclusion

These new enhancements to the GA4 Home page provide a more user-friendly experience that enables users to quickly grasp essential concepts and settings. Furthermore, the built-in banner for verifying Google Ads settings ensures a seamless connection between Google Ads and Analytics data, while the improved “Suggested for you” section offers bespoke content based on your user preferences.

The ability to dismiss irrelevant insights and recommendations ensures a more personalised home page experience. The easily accessible Setup Assistant helps users efficiently complete key setup tasks. These updates significantly streamline the process of utilising Google Analytics data to inform and optimise advertising strategies.

Overall, these new features in GA4 provide marketers with more detailed insights into their website’s performance, allowing them to make more informed decisions about how to improve their websites. Whether you’re an experienced digital marketer or just getting started with website analytics, these new features are sure to be a valuable addition to your toolkit.
